The fast bowler Set to Play a Major Role in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

The pace bowler has claimed 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an impressive average.

Australia's chair of selectors Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that was still troubling him.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest kicking off on the 21st of November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the prospects of participating.

"We know that time is getting short and multiple considerations involved, not only his injury, but other factors as well," he commented.

"It's positive. We firmly believe that he's going to play a significant role. Ideally it's the first Test. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

The captain missed the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of back injuries, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss several home seasons in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

The selector indicated that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.

Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and stated that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the initial matches regardless. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
